Re:Using Musolomo with Apple AU Lab - 2007/03/26 09:39
Airy -- thanks for your reply. As I mentioned, though, I am able to get Musolomo working with Rax but after my 30 days are up it's buh-bye for that.
Anyhow, I messed around some more and figured it out. What helped a lot was downloading the demo of Ableton Live and using the Musolomo manual's suggestions to make it work with that platform. I could then transfer my new-found understanding of the logic behind it all to get Musolomo working with AU Lab. Here's how (with much over-simplification):
1. Start AU Lab and choose the device to be used for input. For simplicity's sake, use "Built-in audio" and "Internal microphone" (the defaults)
2. Go to "Edit" and add an Audio Input. It'll tell you that the setting will cause a feedback loop -- and it will! -- so turn down the volume on your speaker or use headphones.
3. Go back to Edit and add an Audio Unit Instrument. Under "MIDI Source", choose your MIDI controller (which should be plugged in and turned on).
4. Go to the Audio Input you added in Step 2 and open the "Effects" drop-down. If you have properly installed Musolomo, it should appear on the list. When you choose it, the Musolomo interface should pop up.
5. Across the top of the Musolomo interface, you'll see a pink area added by AU Lab. It should say: "Audio 1" "Musolomo (1)" "Untitled" and "plasq.com M...". Click on this last one and choose "MIDI Effect Editor". Under "MIDI Source", choose your controller, as you did earlier for the Audio Input.
You should now have a working setup -- The Audio Input is accepting input from the internal mic, accepting MIDI control and passing it through Musolomo to the Audio Unit Instrument.
I discovered that AU Lab can save the sampled setup as an .aupreset file and these are recognized by Ableton Live (among others, I'm certain).
Regards,
Mark
