Rax & Musolomo emulate looping stompbox? - 2005/10/17 19:05 Hi and thanks for reading.

I'd like to run Rax and Musolomo on my Powerbook G3 (Pismo) to emulate a guitar loop pedal for live use (like the JamMan, Boss RC20, Echoplex, Boomerang, etc...) I also have an M-Audio Ozone USB/MIDI keyboard that can be used.

Is it possible to use a "sustain pedal" hooked up to the Ozone as the start/stop control for hands-free recording? I see that MIDI keys can be assigned various roles in Musolomo but am not sure about the pedal. My goal is to have a single foot-pedal interface to control the looping.

Surely someone on this list is using these tools together in this way and I would appreciate any advice that you'd be willing to share with another guitarist. I play solo guitar/vocal stuff and would like to use these tools together to help build a 'duo' type of sound where I can layer parts on top of other parts.

thanks again,
dave

Re:Rax & Musolomo emulate looping stompbox? - 2005/10/19 01:00 I don't have my sustain pedal handy.. but yes I'm pretty sure that will work.

Do you have a powerbook already?

musolomo is currenty free... you can just download it and try

Rax also works in demo mode (in a limited way).. so see if the setup works. Let us know if you have any questions

Re:Rax & Musolomo emulate looping stompbox? - 2005/10/19 02:45 OK, here's where I am with this... I've been messing around with the demo of Rax and Musolomo as a proof-of-concept of turning my Pismo into a live guitar looper.

Musolomo will, in fact, let me assign a button function to the sustain pedal which is hooked up to the Ozone keyboard. (Ctrl-Click on Musolomo's *Hold* button and then step on the pedal. I initially tried to assign the function to the Record button, but that didn't work like I needed it to)

So, I can press and hold the pedal to record and when I let my foot off of the pedal, the recording stops and playback commences immediately.

I haven't played with the other features of Musolomo yet, but will expand out from the basic overdub type recording soon. Any other guitar-loopers who are reading this, please share your experiences and pointers.

Re:Rax & Musolomo emulate looping stompb - 2007/08/07 04:49 hello, my 1st post here and i'm very happy to see that you have a set like mine i have a guitar into a motu 828 mkII on my powerbook and i've been using musolomo in ableton live, with the sustain pedal assinged to the hold button in musolomo. it works very nice, better than a rc-20 pedal, because you can have sync with your host tempo application
