Gradients with transparency? - 2007/12/12 18:32 Hi there!

I'd noticed a problem in 1.3.4 where transparency in gradients looked fine on the screen, but all transparency was ignored when printing.

While I enjoy the new features of 1.4, I was a bit disappointed that transparency in gradients has been removed outright!

I was working on a comic with captions aligned to the top of the panel, that faded down from black to transparent. A rather nice effect, but now it's impossible.

May I ask why this decision was made? I'm sure there's a reason -- but I'd certainly like to cast my vote to have transparency reintroduced as a color option

Re:Gradients with transparency? - 2007/12/13 03:29 Yes, there WAS actually a good reason for it. It would not only look bad in the print, but also when exporting to an image. Pretty much the only place where it looked good was on the screen (I believe this was due to a bug in the OS).

Because what you see is not what you got, that's probably why it was removed.

Well, at least there was a kludge around the exporting to an image problem using the Apple+Shift+4 key combination to create a PNG capture clipping that left those excellent gradient transparency effects intact - OK in my comics distributed to be viewed at screen resolution. Now that choice has been taken away from me. Bring it back! Grrrrr!
