Great app - but... - 2005/04/16 21:25
Hi, Comic Life is a geat app - I think I could lose myself in it. Anyway, here are some things I have notived which I think need looking at. I was hoping to lob these to a support email address, but I can't find one on the plasq site, so I'll post them here in the hope the someone at plasq reads them.
I like a lot of this app - the iPhoto integration is great - I like the fact that my images are in a small pane in the UI - very useful. I know this is Version 1 - and it's great already. In the day or so that I've been playing with this software, I've noticed a few issues that if fixed will make Comic Life better.
1 - Saving as HTML. When I save as HTML, the default folder name is this: My Comic.comic - if I save this to the same location as the origoinal comic file, the original can overwritten! Doh! The default file name in the HTML export needs to lose the .comic extension, so it's just saved as a folder
2 - I find the windows opened by the comic thumbnails in the HTML a bit too small, and I have to resize the window to get to the navigation windows. A tweak in the HTML output should fix this.
3 - I'd like to be able to export to Photoshop / TIFF / 24-buit PNG in the Export window, with dimension and ppi settings. I know you offer JPEG, but that's lossy and I'd like my whites to be, well, white
4 - I'd like the option to be able to choose a page size when I start a new document, not in the preferences as page dimensions may change from comic to comic (unless I'm missing this somewhere).
5 - The .Mac publishing is great - is there a way to publish to a sub-folder in the .Mac structure? I already have a site on my .Mac account, and I don't want to over-write it with any comics I produce.
Hope you find these useful.
