I came here looking for the same thing: how to fill a word balloon with an image. My character is imagining another character doing something, so the "thought balloon" is needed to wrap up the image in my char's mind.
That's a cool workaround. Thanks! It'll do the job pretty well for me, esp. if I take the shape of the thought balloon into Photoshop and use it to clip the image before I drop it into Comic Life.
