We are delighted to offer a beta of our upcoming Comic Life Magiq 1.0.3 update.
It has numerous stability and significant performance improvements over 1.0.2.1 - so we would love previous users to download and let us know if you come across any issues.
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.
Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...
This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.
If you're already running 1.0.2c (v10939) you can "Skip This Version".
Head to the plasq downloads page to get the 1.0.2.1 update or update from within Comic Life Magiq.

Glad to hear that the idea was well-received. Thank you for listening patiently to the ramblings of a blog geek.
The work around is a pretty creative idea but it doesn't seem to work with the sizes that I need. I think the widest dimension I routinely work with is 255.
Still, that is a very creative solution that others will likely get use from.
Thank you very much for your patience and encouraging information!

Hi PlagiarismToday,
We've definitely got the exact sizing on the to-do list.
In the meantime, a workaround is to use the Save to History function, and then open that image from History when you want to take a snap at that size/ration.
Definitely a "work-around" but we're working on a better solution

Ah, gotcha. Say, for example, if you wanted to capture a piece of screen at a 16:10 resolution. Something like that without having to figure out the numbers yourself?
No, Skitch doesn't currently do this, but it sounds like a cool idea to me

1) No, I did not know about that feature. That is very useful. It is not as easy as Snapz as I still have to use the grips to get the exact size I want (instead of just entering the numeric values), requires a steady hand, but is much easier than the alternative.
2) Let me try to re-explain that. Say that I want an image that is a perfect square or a rectangle that is twice as wide as it is tall. I don't see a clear way to do that in Skitch, but it could be another feature that I am not aware of...
Thank you very much for your help.

I'm posting these just in case you may have missed them (I'm thinking you may have found these already and find them inadequate).
1) If you do Command+Shift+7, you enter Skitch's "Frame" snap mode. Once in this mode, you can size the capture area and then drag the frame to capture the portion of the screen you want.
2) I don't understand this one because in my usage, all my screen captures are 1:1 except for then the captured image is larger than my Skitch viewport. If it is, I use the "Export at 100%" feature (again, I may not follow completely what you need, just giving you some of my solutions)
That there will be a Skitch for Windows, but no info yet on when this will be available.

I want to first off say that I deeply love Skitch as an application. I have used it off and on since December 2007 and have enjoyed the product. I even wrote about the application in a post on the Blog Herald and gave it a mention at WordCamp Dallas back in March.
However, though I continue to use Skitch for some purposes, especially screenshots for clients that need notes, I've stopped using it for most of my day-to-day screen captures. I purchased a copy of the Mac Heist bundle a few months ago and have been using Snapz Pro X as my primary tool.
I use my screenshot tool every day. It is a requirement for running my site and my consulting practice. I would love to use Skitch more but there are a few features that I would need to make it more practical.
1) Absolute Sizing: My favorite feature of Snapz is it allows me to set the size of the area I want to grab and then position the box. This is critical for me when taking images for use in my template.
2) Relative Sizing: Being able to say that I want an image that is a 1:1 ratio is a huge help when trying to grab images for an article.
3) Smaller Memory Footprint: I realize from reading previous posts that this is caused by the undo feature, but Snapz, when idle, eats less than 20 megs of memory. Skitch seems to eat at least 60.
4) Greater Certainty: Right now, my license of Snapz is bought and paid for but I am using Skitch merely as a free beta tester. I don't know how much Skitch will be and how much the image hosting (my second favorite feature) will be. Since this is a tool I use daily, I'm not comfortable putting all of my trust in something that may not be practical tomorrow.
5) Windows Version: Not really a feature matched anywhere else, but I do work on Windows machines from time to time, usually to test software, so I would greatly appreciate a standard image capturing environment.
With that being said, here are the things I really like about Skitch and don't want to see changed.
1) Annotation Tools: They're a bit simple in places but I love them that way. Ideal for pointing something out in an image or adding some quick text.
2) Web Hosting: I don't think I'm going to use the Web hosting feature for images I plan on using on my site, but the ability to use Skitch.com is great for images I send to friends and don't want to use FTP.
3) Look and Feel: The overall usability of Skitch is very high and not intimidating.
All in all, I love and still use Skitch heavily. But I'd like to be able to make it my number one screenshot tool. It just needs a few minor things to make that happen.
