I love the program, but it's not very useful for making actual comics. The templates you provide are really "greeting card / photo album" templates. And just providing different framesets doesn't do much more than help me lay things out.

To make this a true Comic generating program, I need templates with:

-- Detective/Crime/Mystery themes;

-- Horror themes;

-- SciFi themes;

-- Movie themes;

-- Different comic styles (e.g. Peanuts, Crumb, Manga, etc.)

Also, it would be good to have these standard graphics:

-- Buildings

-- Rooms

-- Furniture

-- Streets

-- Cars, trucks, bikes, bicycles, planes, etc.

-- Food

-- Animals

-- Different skies

-- Ocean animals and environment

-- Weapons

-- Explosions of all types

-- Police

-- Fire Dept.

Thanks!

What he said, with a few additions: more customizable speech balloons! Something to make the shape tightly fit to the text rather than being a specific shape, wasting space or forcing wrapping in odd places.
matt I would love to second this idea..

A calendar template that lets you choose any comic life panel for the photo(s) page would be incredibly useful. The features you already have built into the photo panels are as good as any professional photobook/calendar software ive seen so far.

As an additional concept: some templates that would mimic yearbook layouts would also be incredibly useful.
KeynoteKen I haven't tried creating my own .svg files, I've just used CLM's tools to add points and stretch and twist the balloon into whatever shape I need. Then, I just save a document with a few of my favorite options.
JClark How do you create your own?

I see that inside the "package" there are folders with svg files, is it a simple as creating your own and sticking them in there?

If so, that's great, especially if the brush strokes work the same way. I could scan in a bit of my actual line work and have it match up perfectly.
KeynoteKen Since the balloon shapes are all vectors now, I've created several different unique shapes for reusing, some that are similar to what you describe.

Of course, it's not as easy as simply picking an icy balloon, but the flexibility is there. I just noticed that, while there ARE regular dashed lines, there's not an understated dashed brush. Stalagmite and stalactite is CLOSE, but tends to be more random than regular. Grass is better, but maybe something more like drops (but without the solid line component) would be best.
JClark I'd like to see some more specialty balloon shapes. For example, drippy balloons, or roughed up shapes. Looking at something like Sandman shows how powerful these sorts of shapes can be (in particular the way that Dream and Delirium speak). I like that there are so many different thought clouds and the like, but there's really nothing that conveys unbalance, or an icy quality, or whatever. Maybe even get more creative and add shapes that are broken apart or crumbling, or look smeared. All of this goes for balloon tails as well.

Also, a slightly squashed oval would be nice. Something half way between the standard oval (which is a bit too rounded and wastes space), and the "buldge" shape (which is a bit too squared). A dashed brush line would be good, so that whisper balloons can look hand drawn as well. And the ability to add extra strokes to just the balloon would be great...

Things are good as they are, but more options in a program like this would be welcome.

By the way, is there any chance of adding the name of the current balloon and tail? The little icons look very similar, and sometimes you have to hunt to figure out exactly which one you've used.
