Airy -- thanks for your reply. As I mentioned, though, I am able to get Musolomo working with Rax but after my 30 days are up it's buh-bye for that.
Anyhow, I messed around some more and figured it out. What helped a lot was downloading the demo of Ableton Live and using the Musolomo manual's suggestions to make it work with that platform. I could then transfer my new-found understanding of the logic behind it all to get Musolomo working with AU Lab. Here's how (with much over-simplification):
1. Start AU Lab and choose the device to be used for input. For simplicity's sake, use "Built-in audio" and "Internal microphone" (the defaults)
2. Go to "Edit" and add an Audio Input. It'll tell you that the setting will cause a feedback loop -- and it will! -- so turn down the volume on your speaker or use headphones.
3. Go back to Edit and add an Audio Unit Instrument. Under "MIDI Source", choose your MIDI controller (which should be plugged in and turned on).
4. Go to the Audio Input you added in Step 2 and open the "Effects" drop-down. If you have properly installed Musolomo, it should appear on the list. When you choose it, the Musolomo interface should pop up.
5. Across the top of the Musolomo interface, you'll see a pink area added by AU Lab. It should say: "Audio 1" "Musolomo (1)" "Untitled" and "plasq.com M...". Click on this last one and choose "MIDI Effect Editor". Under "MIDI Source", choose your controller, as you did earlier for the Audio Input.
You should now have a working setup -- The Audio Input is accepting input from the internal mic, accepting MIDI control and passing it through Musolomo to the Audio Unit Instrument.
I discovered that AU Lab can save the sampled setup as an .aupreset file and these are recognized by Ableton Live (among others, I'm certain).

Mark

Hi Mark,
I've no eMac to check the same configuration you have but here is some steps to check basic functionalities of Rax+Musolomo is working fine
- launch rax
- check the prefs the correct MIDI device and audio device are selected
- select "new library", "new song" in the File menu
- set track 1 as an audio track by selecting the audio input you want to use by ctrl-clicking on the track number
- check your output is correctly playing what you playing on input
- click on "insert" button of track 1
- insert Musolomo
- check the Rax "Musolomo" MIDI indicator is blinking where you're playing some MIDI note
- feed the audio input with some noise
- open Musolomo window by clicking on its icon
- hit the MIDI key bound to the "record" function. Musolomo should have a yellow border
- hit a note key on your MIDI keyboard and keep it pressed until you release your "record" key
- wait a few seconds
- release your "record" key
- Musolomo border color should go back to normal
Then Musolomo should play the sound you've recorded whenever you play the key you used for recording.
Please try these steps and tell us the one that fail.

Hi,
I've been trying to get Musolomo 1.0 working with AU Labs (from the Tiger XCode Tools on the original OS X DVD). I had some success initially -- I could trigger the recording with my MIDI controller (M-Audio Keystation 49e) and was able to create an aupreset from a sound file dragged onto Musolomo. I was a happy camper!
I closed it all down and went away for a while, then came back to try some other things. Now, no luck with anything! Musolomo no longer seems to "see" the controller (none of the actions are triggered by the keyboard). I tried everything I could think of including re-installing everything. Nada. Zip.
Further info: I have an unlicensed copy of RAX 2.2 installed and when I add Musolomo as an effect, it triggers just fine but I can't figure out how to make the keyboard use Musolomo to actually output any sound. And then there's the problem of not being able to purchase or register RAX . . . but I digress.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty new to all of this so I may have missed something really obvious to the more experienced hands. What this also means is that any explanations will need to be in the simplest, step-by -step terms. I therefore beg your kind indulgence.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
BTW: I'm running OS X 10.4.6 on a G3 eMac w/512MB if it helps.
