Topic History of: WH as Insert issue in Cubase SX, AMD X2

Evgeniy Thanks for the detailed message.
Jokke Hi!

I think I got this one solved (or at least understood). Issue is not about multicore AMD etc. It's just about the fact, that in my projects I was using WH2 in both inserts and FX channel on same time (and for same channel).

When loading project channel signal gots divided to two different paths, another being direct insert path, another being FX channel path. Both signal paths are connected to slave computer via WH2.

Most probably this is somewhat too much to WH2 (or Cubase VST engine), at least on project start-up when WH2 instances tries to ping all latency measurements at once. I can see that VST load meter goes to red for a very long time and after that Cubase informs about "critical error".

So at least in my setup I need to keep WH2s either in FX channels OR inserts - but not on both together. (In reality I always keep them on FX channels to run delays and verbs on slave machine).

Jokke Hi all!!

Few corrections and additions to my original post:

1. So this happens with Cubase SX3 (on subject I only wrote "SX")

2. The error in log of course is "ACCESS VIOLATION". I think I invented totally new error code on my original post...

3. I just changed soundcard on my DAW, but it didn't affect to this behaviour.

I think I have turned every stone now, but haven't find solution. It's not a biggie, since WH2s are working in FX channels and that's fine for me - I can put CPU hungry delays and reverbs to another machine via FX busses and my DAW handles channel inserts well.

I think there might be some issues on multicore environment? Perhaps this will serve as input to gurus in Open Source community, who would like to look after Wormhole2. Already now it's very impressive piece of SW.

Cheers and Rock On!!

Jokke Hi!!

Wormhole works like a dream in my DAW's Cubase SX3 when used in FX Channel. However, if I locate them to channel inserts my projects will crash when loading. Cubase log says VIOLATION_ERROR, so it pretty much crashes down the Cubase engine. DAW is using AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+. Turning the "multiprosessing option" off from Cubase didn't help. Neither did turning plugin to "Old Host Behaviour" mode. Have also tried with couple of different ASIO drivers and with USB -ethernet connection dongle (to see if this is about DAW's integrated ethernet port). DAW and Slave are connected with cross connected CAT5, using static IPs, no routers/HUBs.

Couple of interesting points:

1. WHs works well in my slave (laptop with single core Celeron M430) even as Cubase SX3 channel insert (Installed it for test). No crashes, no stability issues whatsoever. Have tested with M-Audio Transit USB interface and with laptop's integrated audio card (with ASIO4ALL), works all the time.

2. And now the totally strange part: I can add WHs as inserts in my DAW's Cubase SX3 projects, when project is already up and running. Works fine when working with project, but project won't load without crash. So I need to save project without WH's in Inserts (like said, even project loading works well when WHs in FX Channels. I have tested this config up to 6 WH instanses.).

3. I can load Mixer settings with WH Inserts to project which is stored without WH inserts. It won't crash, WHs just ping the latencies and are ready to go. So it seems that only the project loading is causing the issue.

Anyone seeing similar issues? I have tried quite many things, but now starting to feel that some assistance would help a lot.

Br,

Jokke
