We are delighted to offer a beta of our upcoming Comic Life Magiq 1.0.3 update.
It has numerous stability and significant performance improvements over 1.0.2.1 - so we would love previous users to download and let us know if you come across any issues.
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.
Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...
This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.
If you're already running 1.0.2c (v10939) you can "Skip This Version".
Head to the plasq downloads page to get the 1.0.2.1 update or update from within Comic Life Magiq.
Comic Life is great for sharing those funny little moments from school, in the office, or while on worldwide progressive-rock-legends tours.
Robert Fripp and Tony Levin have been sharing the day-to-day stories of touring within one of the most influential prog rock bands - on King Crimson’s 40th Anniversary Tour.
Ever wished you had the fun of Comic Life handy at all times? Ever been out at a party, family gathering or on public transport and wished you could add your 'comic touch' to a photo? Now you can!
We're giggling with glee to announce Comic Touch for iPhone and iPod Touch. Add various speech balloons and captions to your photos. Choose a fun special effect to warp and bend your family and friends, then email the results to them!

Just wondering, it was mentioned in another thread that quitting and restarting the app can free up memory. Does the balloon slowdown happen upon a fresh restart or after you've been editing for awhile?
The balloon slowdown happens about 5 seconds into editing a balloon - so it starts off fairly zippy and quick on a fresh restart, but the performance degrades very very quickly.
Comic Life Original, on the other hand, has sub-sub-second response time when editing text in a bubble.

Another slowdown on the 4GB recent iMac - doing any sort of in-the-bubble editing. Highlighting with the mouse or keyboard lags significantly, and the performance is poor even when I give "focus" to my selection, or have nothing else on the page at all.

One of the surefire ways to see a slowdown for me is to use 3D lettering. Shadow and reflection don't seem to slow things down much, but enabling 3D drives even a 4GB iMac to a crawl.

Hi Karen,
We specify 1 GB as the minimum requirement for Comic Life Magiq -- but as KeynoteKen mentioned the more the better really.
And as far as 'ways to make your computer experience nicer', filling up your Mac with as much RAM as possible is a really good 'bang-for-your-buck'.
There may also be some cases where your Mac is not 'releasing memory' used by Comic Life Magiq, a problem which we're working to fix. This means if you've opened lots of Comic Life Magiq documents (and haven't relaunched Comic Life Magiq for some time) then you may be experiencing reduced performance. The simple solution for this is to save whatever you're working on Quit and relaunch Comic Life Magiq, and reload your Comic Life Magiq document. Let us know if this helps!

more specific re: "a reasonable amount of RAM to run." How much is "reasonable?"
I think the reasonable answer would be "How much ya got?!" As with a lot of these computer things, what works well for you will depend on what you want to do. Your average camera nowadays takes some really high resolution pictures. Given that an average page may have 6-7 photos (maybe more if the user's using one image as a background and another as the foreground), all these large images can eat up a lot of memory.
However, you may want to just grab some low resolution images from a website and put some word balloons on them. In that instance, it's reasonable to expect that memory needs won't be as intensive.
So, reasonable depends on what you're doing with it. The "rule of thumb" though is the more you have, the better off you'll be.
