Skitch leaves plasq
The great screen capture, annotation and sharing service has all grownup, left the plasq stables and become its own fully fledged company.

For users this change will not affect you in any noticeable way - skitch.com is still the main home and some of the same people are working on it but you'll be seeing big things coming soon!

Nor Brunschwyler Bought Magiq for the same reason, thought was upgrading. You need a warning on the new product telling people like me that the old comics will not open. Wasted my money!!!
estherau Any news re "About the clipping of balloons issue with Comic Life Magiq - we are definitely aware of the request and we hope to release a new version in the future that adds this feature."

I would love to be able to clip my balloons. How is it coming along?

Are you still working on it?

Love esther
Kramy Hello everyone and thanks for your input on this issue.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and if we knew not having Comic Life Magiq compatibility with old Comic Life files was going to be an issue we would have definitely made some changes either to the application early on in the development phase or to the branding. Unfortunately, we did neither. But lets look to the future!

I have now added a disclaimer to the the crossgrade page (http://plasq.com/comic-life-magiq/crossgrade) and Comic Life Magiq on the plasq store (http://plasq.com/store). We also already have the disclaimer within the Help file (I do understand, however, this doesn't help those people that purchase Magiq without first trialing the 30 day free demo).

We still plan on releasing a Comic Life Magiq version that has an Import of Comic Life (.comicdoc) files in the future. This will be in version Comic Life Magiq 1.1.

If you have purchased Magiq and are not happy with it and would like to swap to a Comic Life Deluxe license and be refunded the difference then please contact us.

For the comments about the quality of the forums: we realize the website and the forums, in particular, are not cutting edge. But we find that the forum does the job as intended Although, you will be happy to know we are looking at making a few changes to the site and the forums in the future.

About the clipping of balloons issue with Comic Life Magiq - we are definitely aware of the request and we hope to release a new version in the future that adds this feature.

Once again thanks for all your suggestions, support and constructive criticism's - it helps shape the future of our software.

Have a great day!

JClark That's true, though just because Apple does it doesn't mean it's right

Actually, I find that Plasq's products, while being distinct from Apple's in how they work, tend have a usability that compares well.

Specifically to these points, balloon trimming works very well, and very easily in Comic Life, and exporting a file to a Magiq file, and vice versa, is simple enough to get your head around (word processors and image editors have been doing it for years and years).
KeynoteKen Technical challenge is no excuse for leaving out necessary features

I think Apple would disagree here. There have been several instances of Apple apps not doing what people expected for several updates, usually due both to technical and to usability issues (it's not enough just DOING, making it ACCESSIBLE is also important).
JClark I was responding to you the second time, nerdo the first time.

I agree that the complaint is valid (I've had the exact same though "name me one other..."). One reason I've been looking at Magiq again is that I'm starting a new project, and don't want to be caught half way through and needing something that Magiq offers.

Again, my issue was one of tone. Script Kiddie is a derogatory term, it certainly doesn't mean "good programmer who is bad with customers". Seriously: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_kiddie

I think we can agree that the Plasq guys are not "juveniles who lack the ability to write sophisticated hacking programs or exploits [whose] objective is to try to impress their friends." This all boils down to one boneheaded branding and/or compatibility decision on their part (either make them compatible, or don't give them the same damn name).

Early on I was very impressed with their responsiveness (I said as much in a review I wrote for MacMentor.com). I'm starting to question that though. There's this compatibility problem between CL and CLM, and now the confirmed lack of balloon clipping in Magiq (check out "BUTTING BORDERS" on this page: http://www.blambot.com/grammar.shtml). Both have been known about for over a year, and it is disappointing that they have not been addressed.

I also agree with your point that making difficult feats seem easy to customers is the goal. I wrote this in another thread: "I'm sure there's some perfectly reasonable explanation as to why this is difficult to do because of how the graphics engine in CLM works, but as an end user I really don't care." Technical challenge is no excuse for leaving out necessary features.

Still, I object to the ad hominem attacks. They speak to poor logic and weaken your point overall. They can also make you look like kind of a jerk (note that I'm using a general "you" here, not you specifically). This is a valid complaint, we don't have to resort to name calling to make it.
