RAX crash w/ different Audio Device at l - 2006/09/13 01:08
RAX 2.0.1 PB G4 1.67Ghz, MacOS 10.4.7, 1.5GB RAX preferences is set to open with a new empty rack.
whenever i launch RAX and the audio device which was previously selected during the last session is not available (i.e. instead of having the MOTU 828mkII attached, i run the program using the built-in audio), RAX will crash, and crash in such a way that no crash log is generated. it goes like this:
1) i launch RAX with the intent to use built-in audio, although the previous session used the MOTU 828mkII
2) a few seconds after the startup flash screen, RAX returns an error message regarding the audio, then after acknowledging the message, puts up an empty rack window with all level indicators displayed in RED.
3) i pull up the preferences and select the AUDIO tab. the AUDIO DEVICE is blank. i select BUILT-IN AUDIO and i get an error message regarding a discrepancy in the sample rate.
4) after acknowledging the error message, the program crashes. there is no crash log generated.
after i relaunch RAX, everything is fine - the AUDIO DEVICE is properly selected and everything works fine. this anomaly is repeatable at will.
recommendations: RAX should automatically default to built-in audio if the previously used audio choice or the choice selected in the preferences is not available at the time of launch; the preferences and all associated settings (sample rate, buffer, etc) should be updated automatically to reflect this change so that there are no inavertent crashes resulting from the switch. a dialog box could be presented to the user to inform of the change.
