Setting up keyboard splits with Rax? - 2006/12/11 14:51 Hi,

First of all compliments with Rax! I tried it yesterday and fount it very easy to use... so probably I will buy it one of these days...

My aim was to find a program with which I can set up my live set using virtual instruments and that's exactly what Rax does in an easy way... I wished Logic could do the same but I haven't found it yet...

My question is this. When I play live I want to use the least equipment possible. For that matter it could be great to send the output of multiple virtual instruments from my macbook pro to only one synth (so to make several splits on the synth keyboard). Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance for the reply and keep up the good work!

Re:Setting up keyboard splits with Rax? - 2006/12/11 17:09 Hi there Zambeezi

I'm a bit confused by your wording.
Do you mean you want to have a single keyboard control the multiple virtual instruments in Rax, by using keyboard splits?

If you press the 'control' button on each plugin, you can set the MIDI range for each instrument.

You can set each plugin to respond to the same MIDI channel.

I hope this helps

Re:Setting up keyboard splits with Rax? - 2006/12/11 18:56 Hi,

In reply to yours the following. I use a m-audio midisport which is connected to two external synths (and to my mac of course).

I would like to use, for example 3 virtual synths, 1 piano on 1 synth and strings and a lead sound together on the other synth. When I choose the control button I can choose the keyboard range and midi channel etc. What happens though is that after selecting a second instrument and adding the keyboard range in which it is supposed to play, I don't hear the first sound anymore.

Furthermore I wonder if I use even more than two virtual instruments on one external synth, for example:

c1-c4 piano
c1-c4 strings (under the piano)
c#4 - c8 lead sound

Any ideas?

Re:Setting up keyboard splits with Rax? - 2006/12/12 17:13 Hi there,

I can't seem to replicate your problem here - mutliple virtual instruments seem to be working fine for any midi input source.

Perhaps you might like to double check the ranges - sometime a synth can be internally transposing sounds before transmission.

Rax certainly allows you to layer sounds in the manner that you want.

Perhaps you might like to start with no range restrictions on any of the synths - and see if you get a signal on all audio channels - as a first point of testing.
