This program makes me sad - 2005/04/30 11:52
The idea of this program is blowing us away. We are http://www.tentonstudios.com.
Let me just say that what this program is for is awesome. A Consumer level app for making those useless photos that hog up your Hard Drive actually fun again.
But we here at Ten Ton (and I can promise you many many others) believe this program (or a pro version of it..you could charge the $40+ again!) has the potential to become the premiere comic lettering program.
I'm not going to list all the things that need to be changed, cuz as I said, for what it's for right now is perfect. But...if you ever want to make it a pro level app for artist, pro or amateur alike. Here's a starter list of things it would need. (I assume you guys know a lot about how a real comic is lettered. Your program is too good to convince me otherwise, but for the sake of this list I'm going to ignore that fact)
*Better exporting options. The ability to export to a true 300dpi is essential.
*The ability to save the actual lettering being done on the page as a layer.
*Being able to open a jpg and start working right away and not have to drag and click it onto your template. When lettering a comic all the artwork is right there and the letterer just decides where the balloon placement.
*Balloon tales. They look alright in their current state, but a slight curve to the tale is essential sometimes. Especially if two balloons are tied together. Those balloon tails need to wave bend around artwork sometimes.
*I'm almost positive if you worked up something like this program, Nate over at www.blambot.com would make some kind of promo-deal with you. His Fonts are incredible and this program begs for them to be used.
*I'm pretty sure the gallery mode is what's slowing my computer down to a crawl. I can run illustrator just fine, but iPhoto kills my computer's speed. Maybe kill the gallery, or make it an option like photoshop's "image browser".
Feel free to email me if you want our input on development. It's a shame that Illustrator is the standard that many pros are willing to put up with to get the job done. You folks have the power to make it so easy for us. Please...help? lol,
thank you for your time,
