Re:More Photoshop Techniques - 2005/04/30 02:53 Let's see...

Adjustable textures (with scaling, angle, and perspective adjustments) to apply to panel background, including speed lines and rain. It'd be cool if they had transparent background so they could be applied over images (or background images, if multiple images per frame ever comes about).

Dot textures, or maybe just a filter to make dot textures out of images (not hard to do with layers in PS, not sure if it's possible here).

Lens flares. Because they make every image better (just kidding, but if used correctly they're a great thing). Other images like "twinkles", bursts (like they often use to show a hit), and things like that would be nice too.

And that's all I've got at the moment.

and would there be any "far-out" requests at all?

Like, I like some of the manga modern comics, so many lighting effects like lens-flare etc.

So, top 5, and then your über-effect.

Ok, 'ere we go:

1. Manga Halftones (perhaps some sort of masking with it)
2. Manga style "speed lines"
3. Colour Halftones (image -> colour halftone)
4. Some very advanced toon shading / posterisation ?

Now you want far out request okaaayy:

comic drawing module, vector based , different pens/nibs with a tool that allows you to thicken lines by drawing over them =).

(Can you see where I am going with this =) ...)

Edit: The corefilters thing is a good call - there's enough of 'em included in Tiger ! (mind you that then limits Comic Life to Tiger which I am sure won't go down to well)

In an effort to not let this thread die, here is an addition to the "if only" pipe dreams.

If I had my "druthers" it'd be an eyedropper and group & ungroup commands.

I'm working in Panther, and see that CL grabs a lot of memory/CPU on my computers. I would hate to see this program become so bloated so as to become a pain in the a.., rather than the joy that it is.

At the risk of being flamed, I would suggest that those familiar with PS or AI, use those programs to prepare their selections prior to importing them into CL. I have no doubt that Cl will mature on its own, and as evident in the initial iteration will do it with alacrity, celerity and sophistication.

Re:More Photoshop Techniques - 2005/05/06 03:43 Echo your request that CL does not become as bloated - I mean, feature rich - as Photoshop and Illustrator. Some quick and easy effects would be nice, though. Or how about a forum thread to share photoshop techniques and actions?

Re:More Photoshop Techniques - 2005/05/06 03:50 Good point about bloat. I'll revise my requests to just textures. Textrues would be sinple (from a user's standpoint) as an alternative to gradients, and textures could be included to simulate speed lines and halftones. Some ability to apply both gradients and textures to any object (while respecting that object's transparencies) would be a wonderful addition that I don't think would bloat things.

That way you could bring in a colored image and apply a 50% opaque halftone texture over it, simulating that comic look. And then you could add a speed line texture to the panel and voila, a simple way to create complex looking comic images.

Re:More Photoshop Techniques - 2005/05/06 04:42 I'm sure this question will be asked a lot (sorry I didn't spot it sooner). We've approached Adobe about getting access to the Photoshop plugin SDK - but they've ignored the email. I don't think they like other hosting apps to get access...

But don't worry - Apple's CoreImage filters look like they'll take off like a rocket and Comic Life will definitely be on board!

Best,

Robert.
