Comic Life Magiq 1.0.2.1 update released
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.

Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...

This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.

A helper tool for vector artwork - 2005/05/06 12:33 I just wanted to mention for those who weren't aware, that Microsoft (I know, I know...but don't stop reading yet) bought out a company called Creature House a few years back. Creature House made a pretty spiffy vector drawing app called Expression. Currently, Microsoft is offering it as a free download from their website (you do have to provide a .net password, though).

I saw a feature request in another thread asking for such functionality in Comic Life, which IMHO would be redundant to other, more suitable applications, and would take plasq's focus away from the core functionality of Comic Life. I'd much rather see plasq keep refining this new genre of software they've pioneered and evolve it into the QuarkXpress or InDesign of comic creators.

Re:A helper tool for vector artwork - 2005/05/06 13:34 Hi captkevman,

I mentioned being able to import vector items into the balloon menu because I was speculating that the existing balloons must be vector items as they are so easily resized on the fly. If so, possibly adding user shapes should be relatively easy, I thought.

Did you know that Creature House engineers were the originators of paths which first made a digital appearance in Expressions. It's pretty interesting software and definitely worth the small hassle of getting an account to be able to download it. Frankly, it's amazing that Microsoft is giving it away. They've even finalized some of the elements in this latest version which was an alpha release when they bought it from Creature House a year and a half ago.Though its called a beta version, it is very stable.

If you happen to use a Windows or Linux box, there is an open source vector application, not yet compiled for OSX (but the source tarball is available so it could be...). Inkscape is pretty simple compared to Illustrator but shows great promise and it is free.

Also, if you happen to have a Windows box there is a wonderful vector app which has unusual capacities for embedding and manipulating raster images called Xara X1. I think that maybe Xara X1 may be my favorite vector app because it is so easy and logical to use. Too bad it's Windows only!
