We are delighted to offer a beta of our upcoming Comic Life Magiq 1.0.3 update.
It has numerous stability and significant performance improvements over 1.0.2.1 - so we would love previous users to download and let us know if you come across any issues.
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.
Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...
This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.
If you're already running 1.0.2c (v10939) you can "Skip This Version".
Head to the plasq downloads page to get the 1.0.2.1 update or update from within Comic Life Magiq.

File can be saved only once - 2008/05/28 08:08Hi there,
I've run into a peculiar problem, which I thought was a limitation of the trial version of Magiq -- but now that I've bought the program and registered the serial number, the problem persists.
I'm converting an existing ComicLife project to Magiq, which involves painstakingly recreating the layouts and copying over all the word balloons.
However, the file I've created (with placeholder images for the layouts) will only allow me to save *once* per session. After that, if I select Save from the menu, the program hangs for a while, but the file is not updated. When I select 'save as' and change the file name, no new file is created.
Re:File can be saved only once - 2008/05/28 14:15I'm not saving to my Documents folder; I *am* running Magiq from my Applications folder.
Some experimentation has shown that the saving isn't limited to one or two times per night, but to specific actions.
The problem arises when I alter one of the 'dialogue' styles. the settings I use are Lint McCree, 6pt, white, on a Rounded rectangle box, with a dark radial gradient and a pair of fire tongs.
As soon as I Undo these changes... presto. The machine's good as new!
Re:File can be saved only once - 2008/05/28 15:14Hi Alex
We can't seem to replicate your problem here. Could you possibly zip up your comic document (Right click and choose Compress) and email to my name at plasq.com?
We could then take a better look.
Also, what do you mean by 'fire tongs'? Is that a comic element we've not heard of?
Re:File can be saved only once - 2008/05/28 18:13Is the problem combined with when you're copying a word balloon from Comic Life? For example, if you create an entirely new page with all new elements, do you have a problem saving, then?

...honestly, I have no clue about he fire tongs. I really have no idea what I meant; Pardon my brainfart, there!
I've done some more testing, and I think I've isolated what's causing the issue for me. Attached you'll find a zipfile of a test project I made, 'magiq test 8.clmdoc'.
This is a custom layout; 464 pts by 738, no margins, and a black bckground page color. It contains a single bulge' word balloon, though I've also tested this with captions.
You'll notice that the word balloon has a gradient fill. Now, what I wanted was for the gradient to be darker.
So, open this file, select the word balloon. Select the gradient fill icon in the sidebar and select 'show gradients'.
The white stop color (the centre color) is automatically selected, so click on the rectangle at the bottom to bring up the color selection menu.
Select the Gray Scale Slider and select a different grayscale value (I selected 25%).
Now, try to Save As a different filename. On my system, this will not work. The file is not created on my disk and the name of the file I'm working on doesn't change.
If I hit 'undo', and try to 'save as' again, it works. The new file is created, and the name of my current project is updated to the new file.
This doesn't, therefore, seem to be a problem with copy-pasting, but rather has to do with the gradient fill -- at least on my system.
