Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/05 00:59 Hello. I have a brand-spankin' new MacBook Pro (June 2009), with the 9600m GT active, and every time I use Magiq, it's a sluggish as any application I've ever seen. Is anybody else experiencing this issue on new hardware? Is there a fix that I'm overlooking?

I'm not running any additional applications at the same time, so I know I've got plenty of my 4GB of RAM available.

Thanks for any help!

Re:Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/05 08:38 Hi Nigel,

In some circumstances the preferences file can get corrupted; this may be the problem.

Try trashing this file (you will need to reset your Comic Life Magiq preferences again).

1. Make sure you are not running Comic Life Magiq
2. Find the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.plasq.ComicLifeMagiq.plist

(~ is the users directory)

3. trash this file
4. restart Comic Life Magiq.

Does that fix it?

Please let us know how you go.

Re:Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/06 11:12 Well, I've trashed the preference file, but overall, the application is still running like molasses. It has hit me as very strange, since this is a brand new MacBook Pro and everything else runs very smoothly on it.

Re:Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/06 18:33 Hi Nigel,

Is anything in particular really slow?

Perhaps if you could take a screen video capture so we can see how it is for you and we can let you know if it is normal.

Re:Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/09 07:25 I recorded a video using ScreenFlick, but it has a lot of visible artifacts, and a short video is still over 25MB...so I'll have to come up with a different plan.

However, in the meantime, the operations that seem to take the most time are adding photos to a layout from the right-hand chooser/pane (I'm using Lightroom 2 as my default location) as well as adding effects to text, resizing specialized text, etc.

If I can get that video in a smaller size, it's very evident, especially when adding photos to a layout.

Re:Comic Life Magiq running slow? - 2009/07/21 23:41 Unfortunately, I can't get this speed thing figured out, and I can't find any screencasting software that doesn't put a huge watermark on the video unless you fork out the $$$ for it.
