DigiSkip - 2005/03/29 21:29 The DigiSkip is one of my favourites features in Musolomo ... wondered if it would be easy/possible to have a loopermode for digiskip manipulations ?

I guess this would mean some sort of midi-event sampling where Musolomo reminds the succession of digiskips made ...

This idea is inspired by Tehn 's "The Box" as used by Daedelus . In a recent EM411 thread Daedelus explains the interaction between Max/msp patch and controller :

" it's all start point data of the particular sample, the fun difference is that the computer can quantize and memorize the movements made on the buttons and repeat them in sequence. So it's easy to generate complex patterns pretty fast."

Re:DigiSkip - 2005/03/29 23:18 Mbazzy, I'm very glad you like digiskip..it's a concept I'm very proud of.

But you have to explain your concept a little better for my fried brain...what is it that you want to do?

Do you want to be able to record the digiskip actions and apply them new samples, or do you just want to record the existing crazy jumping as a loop?

ie, would a new one-button looper (like the mini-loopers concept) do the trick if it can record the main out of musolomo? Or would using Live to record the midi involved be a better choice?

Obviously, there is a lot of scope here..and I'm trying to understand exactly what you want to do.

There is another thread here where Mech is talking about the recording of musolomo event sequences...perhaps there is some overlap there?

Re:DigiSkip - 2005/03/30 21:30 Hi Keith .. thanx for listening ...

The thread on em411 I'm referring to is this one
http://www.em411.com/forum/22139/4//daedalus.html

The developer of the box has recently joined the discussion as well . And I see a lot of overlapping interests with what Plasq is trying to do .

also have a look at the Tehn video , the creator of Daedelus' boc : http://music.calarts.edu/~tehn/(tehn)mlr.mp4

The DigiSkip is something I always wanted and used in different incarnations like The Sm'ex plug Supatrigger, or beore that "the coldcutter" by Camart ... only main drawback of these is the randomness ... fine with me but sometimes you want more control ...

Musolomo's digiskip just covers that base perfectly ...

There might be some overlapping indeed with Mech's ideas ...

Basically I also want to get away from the idea of using live to record the midi events (as I'm using Live less and less in favour of Plogue Bidule) ...

What somehow I'm referring to is a kind of freeform event sequencer where Musolomo would pickup the sequence when a certain control is pressed ... basically a kind of "hold" but for event sequences (could not only be digiskip, but also scratch/bow/ ... ) . Quantization could use the sync settings as they are now for audio .

At first I was thinking , recording only for the existing audio loop , but than thinking further I saw the possibilities for using it on new subsequent audio as well ... where I see great potential for a new feature , being a (simple?) crossfader . But that would mean a multi-audio Musolomo ... getting complex aren't we ...

Now the power of The Box concept is that it gives visual feedback where the audio is . From what I understand the max/msp patch works a bit different but the idea behind is the same . Getting away from the screen and make a new kind of instrument for live audio processing.

That would induce another new feature for Musolomo, where Musolomo would be able to feed back loop position info to a controller like 'the box' .

Re:DigiSkip - 2005/03/31 02:29 actually, atariboy and i had talked about something with the exact same ideas and hardware. I figure there must be a need for such a thing!

Actually, one of these days I'll stick up this huge article I've written on the design of better electronic instruments, which looks at visual, auditory and haptic feedback,...

but anyway, so, do i get this right.

some sort of 'control sampler'? which allows you to press a button to record 'controls' (like pitch, digiskip, looping control (next build) etc?)

hmmm
