Comic Life Magiq 1.0.2.1 update released
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.

Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...

This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.

If you're already running 1.0.2c (v10939) you can "Skip This Version".

Head to the plasq downloads page to get the 1.0.2.1 update or update from within Comic Life Magiq.

Re:Comic Life 1.3 Beta - 2006/12/17 00:08 The new stuff is great I just had a few comments.

The "save" takes a really long time now. Maybe it's just the length of my project? (30 pages) but it literally takes a minute now everytime I save.

While the picture in picture is nice, I actually find it really slows down my workflow. I replace pictures more frequently (than put a picture in picture) and am now forced to delete the first one, whereas before it was just removed automatically when I dropped in the new one.

I also wish when you start up you could get it to open up the "last project" worked on as opposed to always opening a new project.

But still...an amazing program!

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

I really hope you don't have any problems with that large file - remember it is just a beta at this stage, and the file system is being worked on, so really the beta should really only be used for testing purposes and not for doing anything that you will grow attached too - if something bad happens

We have made changes to the file system already for the next beta release - so files created with this beta may not be compatible with future versions.

Just a friendly warning! I hope you will find the long save times are improved in the next beta we release.

This is a bit of a case of "catch-22". People have requested the multi-images for ages and still do on a weekly basis - but this new multi-images update is going to cause some confusion/annoyances from some of our users.

What do you think is best - have a hotkey to disable the multi-images... hold down Shift key as an example?

Yes, this has been one of our planned features pretty much from the beginning - something we plan to do in the future.

Thanks again. Keep the suggestions coming.

I was trying of something along these lines. Something that allows old users to use it in the classic way, but doesn't require new users to make the "multi-image" decision more than once.

I thought placing it near where the "Clip" functions are now (in the menus, contextual menus and GUI) would make sense, but it'd have to be grayed out when selecting anything other than a frame.

Looking at the latest beta now, when only a Frame is selected, "Clip" should probably be grayed out because it doesn't do anything, does it? Placing a frame over another frame doesn't clip it and when placing balloons in a frame, Clip doesn't clip them all.

Re:Comic Life 1.3 Beta - 2006/12/27 22:45 Yes, a hot-key to disable the picture in picture would be great.

I also noticed in the beta that I did an export to TIFF images and some of the text balloons were cutting off sentences (I think the text went back to it's default size perhaps?) Not all of them just every few pages had a problem.

Re:Comic Life 1.3 Beta - 2006/12/28 15:05 Hello again

The latest (and probable final) beta of Comic Life 1.3 has several notable changes.

The new file format has been slightly tweaked, the new multi-picture in a panel feature has been modified (you need to press the Apple/Command key to enable this feature) and the toolbar icons have had a face-lift.

Download it here: CL1.3b3.dmg

Please give it a try -- and for those with a new intel Mac machine, could you specifically try re-saving an old PowerPC file as the new .comicdoc file and try opening it up on your new intel machine.

We would love to hear your feedback and please let us know if you have any issues in this thread.

** Warnings below still stand **

/send kramy

CAUTION: Due to file format changes, comics created in 1.3 will not open in 1.2... So only work on COPIES of your loved comic files when beta testing!

Old comics created in 1.2 will open in 1.3 though.

Don't delete your 1.2.x version just yet.

Re:Comic Life 1.3 Beta - 2006/12/28 23:15 Copying is still lifting any graphic that happens to be in the clipping area of the graphic you're copying. In this example, two objects were created then I selected only "Lettering" and copied it.
