Beat FX-Teleport to the punch - 2006/12/05 22:04
Just a wish or encouragerment or suggestion or something....
Many of us are waiting (and have been for quite some time) for FX-Teleport to become available for the Mac. As a composer and user of the Veinna Symphonic Library I constantly see and hear everyday (both from other composer's and engineers and also on the VSL forum) the desire and need for a software such as this. I really feel that if Plasq would take Wormhole seriously and beat FX-Teleport to the punch, that they could basically monopolize the Mac market. I don't think anyone realizes how this kind of app could basically change the way we do our work. In a multiple machine environment that means no more hardware interfaces for each mahine - translation: about $800 to $1500 savings per machine on firewire interfaces) And when you have a 6 to 8 machine set up, that translates to a lot of cash layout! I know for a fact that that we would basically pay 5 to 10 times what they are charging now (depending on how many machine licenses).
Of course it would have to transmit stable audio on multiple machines and carry midi to compete with what FXT currently does for PC (and the hopefully) future Mac version). Even if the midi thing wouldn't be a part of the package that's okay because we still have MidiOverLan...I'm using it and beside a few little quarks, it's really pretty good.
The reason that I have an interest in WH2 is for two reasons: first, I like the user interface and it's simplicity...nicely done. The second, is because it was designed for the Mac from the ground up. Not designed for the PC and then redesigned or "converted" for the Mac. That always makes me bit nervous!
Anyway, I am in no way a software developer but realize that these guys are rare and gifted breed so maybe this type of software just isn't feasible on a grand scale...but I just remember where MIDI was in the 80's and where it is now. I feel the same way about this whole "networking audio/midi" concept. I think Plasq could become king of the mountain...this thing is so close it's a shame to see it fall short and not really be taken seriously...I feel like this thing has run the 440 meter and given up at the last 2 meters!
What do you think?
