Certainly  Turns out we have both been battling Holidays and sickness but the lines of communication are opened.
I tell you, a real head scratcher this one. Rob now has a pretty detailed account of my 'adventures' trying to isolate this problem so will wait for his next reply...thanks for your help in this.
I will add, the resulting waveform looks like either 'bit crushed' or qauntization errors, so it is a true DSP type of distortion as opposed to a simple overloaded gain staging problem. We will see what the 'wizard' has to say.
