Re:Connection issues - 2006/04/01 05:48 Hi Airy,

Thanks for the response. Yes I read the PAQ. Thta is not the issue, I have played with all combinations of that (and also in Live).

The problem is that Wormhole says "not connected", rather that "the host is not feeding audio to wormhole".

Like I say, audio flows fine from Mac to PC, just not the other way. It's nothing to do with resource saving hosts, I know about that and have tried feeding audio, using dummy instruments etc and they all do they same thing...

Re:Connection issues - 2006/04/01 18:18 WormHole indeed uses the 239.xxx.xxx.xx addresses for multicast to get the channel names and ip addresses of other instances.

Audio is transmitted over UDP ports 48100, 48101,... depending on how many channels you use

If you see channel names, networking is most likely already working fine.

However I guess the problem is that you might be using WH2 on windows with a built-in sound card & huge latency. To get reasonable connections, WH2 needs to be run inside a host with a latency <= 2048 samples, preferrably 1024 or 512.

If that's indeed the case, use the free ASIO4ALL as the audio driver, to get pro buffer settings.

Otherwise I'd guess network traffic is being blocked by the mac (OSX firewall maybe?)

Ok - Yep, that seems to be working fine.

Ok, this seems to be where the problem is. Now on the Mac, the firewall is open for these ports, but there's no mention of whether it's TCP *and/or* UDP. (The sharing prefs are quite basic)

Possibly TCP is open but UDP isn't? Something to investigate in the unix config files...

I don't think so - the PC was my main DAW, it has an Emagic soundcard in it running at pretty low latency (it also has a UAD-1 card in it, which is the main purpose of trying Wormhole )

The firewall on the PC definitely is configured to let TCP *and* UDP through (in and out) on those ports, so I think you're right, it's probably something to do with the Mac's reception of UDP.

That at least gives me something to focus on, thanks for the info Adrian. I will take a look a little later on and report back what I find...

Re:Connection issues - 2006/04/02 17:45 Ok, in the terminal, you can get at the OSX Firewall ("ipfw") and look at the config by doing:

Code:

 sudo ipfw list

As suspected, adding 48100-48200 in the sharing preferences pane results in the following entry in the firewall config:

Code:

02180 allow tcp from any to any 48100-48200 in

So I added a further entry to expressly let udp in:

Code:

02200 allow udp from any to any 48100-48200 in

(One thing to note, if you make changs to the firewall sharing prefs, changes you're made here will be overwritten)

However, this didn't make a difference - I still get "not connected" when trying to Wormhole audio from the PC to the Mac.

Re:Connection issues - 2006/05/03 02:56 Well, I had one last ditch attempt.

I completely removed and uninstalled my firewall (Zone Alarm)from my PC. Windows Firewall is off, so there is no firewall or traffic filtering whatsoever on the PC.

I completely turned off all filters and activity on the Mac OSX firewall, so that is completely off.

And I *still* get exactly the same symptoms as above. The channel names are seen by the Mac, but no audio is ever passed.

I give up. With no firewalls, and one network cable, this thing should be a no brainer.

Maybe Wormhole should include some debugging and monitoring screens or something, because it shouldn't be this hard.
