You could be a bit more open about communicating this kind of stuff. You'd probably get more sympathy that way.
The main skitch page hasn't changed in months (apart from perhaps adding comments about how wonderful it supposedly is). You've been collecting e-mail addresses from people for months. How about at least letting them know why it's taken so long, instead of expecting them to come and dig around in a forum?
For me it seems to be a regular cycle: - see blog post somewhere where yet another person's used a private-alpha of skitch to upload/annotate a photo. - go to plasq.com/skitch - notice that nothing's changed. it's still not out. there's still no real word on when. - check the comments in the "Skitch - Snap, Draw, Share" blog posting in the sidebar. - notice that nothing's changed there, either - maybe there's another commenter asking "where is it?" or another post from one of the plasq guys saying "public beta expected in the next few weeks", but then a few weeks pass, and...nothing.
I know it has been a long time - but we want to make sure that Skitch and mySkitch is going to be as good as we want it to be!
We're not expecting beta software to be perfect. It's not unreasonable for people to assume that if it's been good enough for a bunch of people to be playing with since late last year, that they ought to be able to play with it too.
Besides, how central to skitch is the myskitch service? I was under the assumption that skitch was usable without it (but then, without being able to see much info about it, I wouldn't know...).
It's hard to say, as others have, that I "need" this app - I've lived without it so far, of course. It does look really useful, and I'd be willing to pay for it if it's as good as it's supposed to be. But as time goes on, it's hard not to feel either a) that it's going to be a huge anti-climax when it finally arrives, or b) that, after all this, I won't want to "give in" and buy it when it does come out.
