Re:Rax: Any further development? - 2005/07/14 11:15 I'll probably give a poor representation of this idea but....

The Akai EWV2000 is an analog two voice synth that is controlled by either an EVI or EWI. Wind controller. It will send midi out to an external synth. The MIDI EVI made by Nyle Steiner is a midi wind controller.

On the Akai: you can define 15 seperate chords:
0:4:7:12 would be a Major chord
0:3:7:12 would be a minor chord
-12:5:7:14 would be one note down an octave and a sus.9

Each number represents a half step either above or below the note that is actually played. This is very flexible but could really stand some updating.

Each chord is assigned a number. 00 through 14.

Each patch on the EWV can have it's own chord setup.
C=00......could be a Major chord
C#=05.....could be a sus4 chord one half step below the note played (?) -1:4:6:11
D=01......could be a minor chord or ....anything. You have 15 chords predefined ready to use for each chromatic note of the scale.

The half step down thing is a cool trick. If the tune you are playing (key of C let's say) doesn't use C# then you......turn off pitchbend on the external synth while keeping PB on on the Akai. Play C# and PB down to a C it still sends a C#.....the external plays a Csus....then release the pitchbend and play a C for the resolution.

This whole thing takes quite a bit of setting up but is worth it.

Now I've given it all away......

If Rax had this ability onboard....it would be su-WEET! I have more ideas....

Does any of this make sense?

Re:Rax: Any further development? - 2005/07/14 14:08 would you possibly wanted 'smarter' diatonic chords for this stuff?

have you looked at ableton Live, btw, it's has a few nifty plugins for that.

what other (disclosable) tricks do you have up your sleeve?

Re:Rax: Any further development? - 2005/07/21 06:53 giggin'...back now...

My impression of smarter diatonics implies that a note played is going to call up a chord related to the key which is defined????

The beauty of the Akai system (the way I see it) is that you can define any chord and assign it to any note of the chromatic scale. This may be of no matter to keyboard/guitar synth players....but to a one-noter (windsynths most of the time) this can exponentially increase the noise factor.

Tie this into the already able controls of RAX (splits, velocity triggers...etc.) and we have even more of a kick-XXX host.

Now let's talk about routing those chord to different channels.....

Re:Rax: Any further development? - 2005/07/21 15:39 Oh yeah.....

I would also love for RAX to lower the CPU load of each AU by about 40% AND increase the apparent CPU Speed by at least 50%.

Can this be done?
Is this too much to ask? http://plasq.com/components/com_simpleboard/emoticons/ wink.png

OK, OK, I think I just need to belly up for a faster Mac.

More gigs.
