Re:running slow for anybody? - 2008/05/09 16:32 Hi Phil,

If you're working with a lot of images, then Comic Life Magiq will needs lots of RAM -- you may want to quit any other application that's running which you're not using at the time. We're definitely keen to keep optimizing Comic Life Magiq so we appreciate the feedback

If you're finding it unusably slow, then there may be a problem with the installation -- perhaps try re-downloading and reinstalling?

Thanks for supporting Comic Life Magiq.

/Keith

Re:running slow for anybody? - 2008/05/09 17:46 On my Mac Mini 1.66 GHz intel Core Duo it also runs pretty slow. Even when I just create three pages from templates with no photos placed yet, I doesn't feel snappy at all. After placing two images it becomes unbearable. Editing the images happens with glacial speeds. When I switch from one editing mode to another the image to be edited flashes for a split second on top of all other windows.

There also seem to be quite a few screen redraw issues, parts of the window won't refresh. I deleted several pages, but the window didn't refresh for several seconds after that, so I ended up deleting too many pages. And when I resized the window slightly in order to have CL Magiq refresh the display, the whole window turned white and didn't redraw at all. On quitting the application then I get a "Save/Discard/Cancel" confirmation dialogue on which the application almost immediately crashes. Ouch!

I've got 2GB RAM, so I doubt this is caused by insufficient memory. I guess that CL Magiq is making heavy use of core image which might be partly reason for the slowness, considering the abysmally bad intel integrated graphic card on the Mini...

Re:running slow for anybody? - 2008/05/09 18:27 Here's a screenshot of the redraw issue. I'm still not sure how to 100% reproduce the bug, i.e. what steps are exactly causing it.

However, after creating and deleting pages back and forth I was able to recreate the bug three times now. After a few minutes of creating and deleting some pages and resizing a few images the following happens: hitting CMD+Shift+D to delete a page will result in the page deleted, but the window won't refresh and the window contents will somehow "freeze" i.e. you can't select any of the content of the window. If I then try to resize the window I get the white blank window.

I think heavy use of Core Image is a good assumption. Add to that the ability to have several high resolution images all overlaid on the same page THEN add the image filters, cropping (when you place in a panel) and other effects and it's easy to see how all of that could bring an older model computer with weaker video card to it's knees!
