Comic Life Magiq 1.0.2.1 update released
A free update for Comic Life Magiq is available for all users.

Identical to 1.0.2c in all but version number, which has been changed to ensure 1.0.2 users are made aware of the 1.0.2c update via the menu: Comic Life Magiq > Check for Updates...

This 1.0.2.1 update is recommended for all 1.0.2 users and fixes a serious saving issue introduced in 1.0.2 that caused images to be left out of the document.

Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/13 01:28 I've just downloaded the trial version of Comic Life Magiq, and read around a bit here, and it's still not clear to me whether this product is a replacement for Comic Life or something that complements it. Can someone clarify? Thanks!

Re:Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/13 02:13 You can find an answer here...

But, since your question does read a little different, here's a little different answer. When you install Comic Life Magiq, it does NOT remove Comic Life, so in a physical sense it's not a "replacement". Magiq cannot open Comic Life documents and cannot save as Comic Life documents (and also doesn't have a Windows compatible version).

Can Comic Life Magiq do everything Comic Life can do (create panels, drop in images, add filters, etc.)? Yes, and in many cases better than before. The effects, some of the commands and other things are in slightly different places, and it'll take a little getting used to.

So, in my opinion, Comic Life Magic CAN replace Comic Life for the creation of your future content.

Re:Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/15 12:28 I rather think he wanted to know whether Comic Life Magiq will replace Comic Life in the future.

I, too have to say Magiq right now is promising, but almost unusable. It's a crasing hog. They've totally screwed the UI, it doesn't feel much like a Mac app anymore, so I really hope that Comic Life will get updates in the future, because despite having bought Magiq somewhat impulsively, I'm sticking with Comic Life for now and hope it will live long and prosper.

I am not happy with Magiq in it's current state (bugs, stability, speed and UI).

Re:Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/16 05:00 Hi Bunglemeister,

Comic Life Magiq will continue to be available in parallel with Comic Life as far as we can envision.

I'm sorry to hear Comic Life Magiq has not been a happy experience -- as per your other post we believe it's one which is not the common experience. However we are working to solve these issues that yourself, and some others are having.

Hopefully we can win you back to Comic Life Magiq!

Re:Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/18 00:07 I have been using Comic Life on and off for the past year and I quite like it so I decided to download the demo of Comic Life Magiq and take a look.

I have to agree with a previous post (at least in part) that the UI seems very un-mac like. It reminds me of another very cool but unsatisfying app Kai's Soap. I also find the performance on a C2D to be pretty slow and can assume it is because the core image stuff in Magiq relies heavily on the graphics card and the integrated graphics on the Macbook aren't up to it.

I think Magiq shows a lot of promise and looks to be quite fun and innovative but at least for now I think I will stick with Comic Life.

Re:Magiq - replacement or complement? - 2008/05/19 14:16 I have to agree about the interface changes as I'm not a big fan of programs deviating from standard Mac design. My biggest issue is with the photo editor that comes up when you click on the artist paint board in the upper right hand corner of a selected photo. This brings up an editor that while makes it easy to find most of the tools but at the expense of wasting a tremendous amount of screen space. In particular, I would like to see more of the picture I'm trying to edit.
